Alphaville - Big in Japan [1984]

Alphaville est un groupe new wave allemand qui a commencé sa carrière au début des années 80. Le groupe est composé de Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd et de Frank Mertens.

Ils sortent leur premier album "Forever young" en 1984, qui est un succès mondial grâce à la chanson "Big In Japan" (N°1 en Allemagne et en Suisse en avril 1984, N°1 en Suède, N°2 en Italie, N°4 en Autriche et en Irlande, N°8 au Grande-Bretagne, N°5 en Afrique du Sud et aux Pays-Bas et N°66 aux USA toujours en 1984). L'album contient deux autres autres hits qui sont "Sounds Like a Melody" et "Forever Young".

Alphaville sort en 1986 son deuxième album "Afternoon in utopia" et c'est à nouveau le succès grâce notamment au single "Dance with me" (au Top 20 en Allemagne, Suisse, Afrique du Sud, etc., et N°25 en Autriche). Sort ensuite "Breathtaking blue "(1989) où le son est comparable à celui des deux précédents.

Avec "Prostitute", en 1994, Alphaville change de style. L'album connait un succès moindre. Leur dernière production, "Salvation", paraît en 1997 ; il est beaucoup moins sensible, mais plus "dance" que les précédents.
